The Revolution to NH Libraries

The Revolution: A Manifesto is now out. And many of you have already read it. Wouldn’t it be great if we could share this book with thousands of others? How about we do that? Show them the Ron Paul spirit. We will be starting up a project that will donate The Revolution to all 238 public libraries in New Hampshire. The publisher has agreed to give us a nice discount due to the volume. I have a list of all 238 libraries and will start contacting them shortly. We need to raise about $3,600 to cover the books and shipping to each library. I know that some libraries may have already received a copy. If you have donated a copy already please contact us so that we can take it off the list. If there are any funds left over the money will be donated to the NH Republican Liberty PAC. Email us if you have questions or want to help.

  • NH Seacoast Liberty will have a table at the 2008 PorcFest Festival in Gunstock, NH. The table will contain information on towns and cities from around the NH Seacoast Region to provide for potential movers a chance to get informed about the seacoast. We will also provide other pro-liberty literature to broaden our appeal.

The cost is fairly minimal, however donations to offset out of pocket expense would greatly be appreciated.

So far, we have the table ($55) along with 500 copies of Discover Liberty ($17.50). I am in contact with Republic Magazine and will hopefully have a deal finalized soon. Furthermore, additional funding will help with any printing costs, media costs, etc. If you have any ideas of other items that could be given away at our table, please contact me.

Any funds that are not used during PorcFest will be saved for future events.

Today marks the 90 Day Anniversary of when the NH SeaL Meetup Group was founded.  During that 90 days, here are some of the items that the group has accomplished.

    • Developed training materials for the NHLA such as:
    • “How a New Hampshire Bill Becomes Law”
    • “New Hampshire State Government Overview”
    • “NHLA Bill Review Training”
    • How to Become a State Representative
    • State Candidate Questionnaire
    • In this period of time, members have also done the following:
    • Become GOP Party Chair in 2 Towns
    • 4 Members Running for Office (quite possibly more than 4!)
    • 1 Member Running for NHLA Board of Directors
    • Assistant Organizer for the Ron Paul HQ Meetup Group

There have also been several great accomplishments such as the growth of our membership, the new friendships, etc. that have occurred.  Great job to everyone that has been a part of this revolution!

  • Real ID *BACK* In New Hampshire!

    SB434

AN ACT relative to providers of electronic communication services and an extension for compliance with the REAL ID Act of 2005.

House public hearing. Standard Hearing rules apply - Blue sheet to support or oppose, pink card to speak. Make no speech longer than 5 minutes (3 is better); don’t repeat what others have said. The hearing is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM, however I recommend that you show up a early to let your presence be known.

NH law specifically prohibits compliance with Real-ID. And here is the Senate, all 24 of ‘em, voting to urge the Governor to file for an extension so we can come into “compliance” with REAL-ID! This is the Senate playing legal word-games in a way the Governor was quite possibly fully anticipating.

    SB 434 reads, quote:
The governor, or designee, is requested to apply for an extension from the federal government of the deadline for compliance with the REAL ID Act of 2005. Such a request shall not constitute “participation” in REAL ID in violation of state law.

We need people to show up EN MASSE to oppose this! Once again — just like in 2006 — it seems the NH Senate does not realize they are being watched so closely. Perhaps they think a ‘tiny’ amendment in an unrelated bill will go unnoticed? THINK AGAIN! If you can’t be there in person, send an email to the members of the Committee Ask them not to pass SB434, or at least to remove the Real-ID section. Here are their email addresses of the Representatives that are on the House Committee.

If you would like to call your Representative to speak to them about this bill, their contact info can be found here.

  • NH Liberty Day

We had a great showing at the State House yesterday with over 30 people attending from across the State. We had people from the NHLA, NHSeaL, GONH, CNHT, etc. Considering we had freezing rain coming down that morning, the turnout was superb!

We started out in the basement cafeteria with about 25 people at 8:15 in the morning. We all dawned our “Defend Liberty!” stickers and armed ourselves with hundreds of copies of the NHLA Gold Standard sheet to hand out to reps as they entered the House chambers.

We arrived at the chamber entry where there were four other lobby groups present, which we easily outnumbered all of them combined. As we arrived, the Representatives came up the stairs and smiled when they saw a few of us standing there. Then, they looked around the corner and that smile became an “oh my”…and as they turned the corner and saw another 20 “Defend Liberty!” stickers, their faces really changed to astonishment.

I spoke to a few Reps and they were very impressed by the turnout. They wanted to know more about the Gold Standard and the purpose of the NHLA. The feedback from those reps that were curious was positive, and one even stated (I wish that I could remember his name!) that he would have to start paying attention to our Gold Standard (that’s after I mentioned the Score Card!).

After the House filled, I stayed in the chamber for a while. Then we tracked off on an unannounced visit to Governor Lynch. A letter encouraging the Governor not to file for an extension with the feds for Real ID was drafted (sorry, not sure who drafted that, but thank you!) and signed by 30+ people that morning. We were going to deliver the letter to the Governor’s office. We weren’t expecting to get a meeting with the Governor but he gave us 5-10 minutes (after about half hour wait) to speak to us on Real ID and answer a few of our questions.

As far as turnout goes, today was a great success. Thank you to everyone that attended!

The legislation which passed the house today is another story altogether. There is a long road before us.

Some of todays bills were pushed out to next week, such as guns in the state house, marijuana decrim, etc. We need to continue showing our government that we are paying attention.

Finally, here’s a video from the event, thanks to Bikerbill…Enjoy! The Ridley Report also has a 4 part series if you want to see what we did throughout the day.

  • Are you?

GSFTC has succeeded in infiltrating 89 town meetings and have had various warrant articles placed on the ballot. Some towns may have amended the article that will appear on the ballot to reverse the meaning so read carefully before you vote.

Basically these articles would like you reject the Pledge by discouraging candidates from taking it or not voting for candidates who have taken it so they can leave the dialog open for more discussion about ‘fairer’ taxes. This is a non-binding resolution. But it is the first step in the demonization of the Pledge and those who take it, under the premise that they are preventing the legislature from considering more ‘fair’ ways of taxation.

You cannot legislate away the ‘free speech’ of candidates. Candidates will continue to take the pledge as offered by CNHT as seen here:
(and hopefully at our annual picnic on July 5th, 2008) http://www.cnht.org/images/pledge.jpg

Even Governor Lynch signed our Pledge.

Taking the Pledge simply means that fiscally responsible legislators promise to reject any broad-based new tax such as a sales or income tax. Along with the goal of getting candidates to reject the Pledge, the articles may even be amended to specifically state the consideration of an income or sales tax.

Instead of asking for yet another tax, and that is just what this is, why aren’t these ‘fairness’ crusaders of the deceptively named “Granite State Fair Tax Coalition” instructing people on how to go to their town meetings and vote NO on excessive spending? Why are they instead bent on DEFEATING SB2 - secret ballot voting? Makes no sense.

Accusing Pledge-takers of keeping taxes high, is an unproven foregone conclusion and an insult. Studies such as the Yankee Institute of Connecticut’s “Fifteen Years of Folly” proved that the added burden of a state income and sales tax made NO significant impact on the lowering of property taxes.

Can GSFTC shows us even ONE document that proves otherwise? No.

Finally, GSFTC is NOT a bona-fide ‘grassroots’ group but a well-funded branch of a larger cabal of groups influenced by national and international outside interests, who are themselves tax-exempt. Because of who they are, they DO NOT belong in town meetings looking to pave the way for more taxation at the state level, even if this were an appropriate place to lobby for such taxes.

CNHT is a true user-driven NH-only taxpayer advocacy group that gets no outside funding or influence. It’s truly grassroots and funded by
small donors in the state of NH.

You can explore GSFTC’s list of supporting groups here: http://www.nhfairtax.org/aboutus/organizations.php

The last link on that page should be updated to: http://www.uuactionnetworknh.org/

Kick these outsiders out and vote NO on their silly warrant articles if they suggest the rejection of the Pledge. The Pledge is our NH Advantage.

Permission was granted to reproduce this article, thanks to the CNHT and Jane Aitken for their research!
